So we jumped ship and went away in Otis the Van for a couple of weeks. Here are some of our best bits...

Forte Saint-Elme in Collioure is an amazing landmark to walk up to and over look the bay, and then cool off with a swim in town. We grabbed some delicious food from the Sunday market and had picnics in the evening.

San Sebastian - A rainy day here but we parked the van on the edge of the ocean, where we woke up to a pretty spectacular view. Go for a surf or swim in the water.

We love Biarritz its a beautiful town to have a wander around. Be sure to walk on all the little off land spots. I also love just grabbing a coffee and watching the world go by in one of the seafront cafes. Of course, if there is good surf, get in that water. I hear from the Tidal Travellers that the Surf museum is worth a visit too, although we missed it this time.

Waxed Hossegor - top spot for a good coffee on a side road in Hossegor town centre. Run by two really nice welsh guys. They also have some really good food and products for sale.

Tante Jeanne Hossegor - Best Ice Cream outside of Italy.

La Napoli Italian Restaurant near the ocean front does really great pizzas - Apple, goats cheese and Honey was delicious.

All the beaches up the west coast are beautiful so I would recommend just stopping of at all of them. We had some amazing sunrise surfs too which I would recommend.

Bordeaux - unfortunately we had a crazy rainy day here but I love Bordeaux. We sheltered in some really awesome little cafes which I would highly recommend.... Cafe Piha and L'Alchimiste both of which roast their own beans.

By chance on the way back we stopped in Angles-sur-l'Anglin which we later found out has been voted as one of the prettiest villages in France. Theres good reason for that - its really beautiful with a castle on the riverside. We parked up right on the river so we got some good fresh water swims and we had a pretty good crepe in the local crepery.

Our last night in France we actually spent in Escalles, just around the corner from Calais, and where pleasantly surprised with this little place. We camped up overlooking the water and cooked up a storm for our last meal in France.

Its safe to say with had some good adventures, got super salty and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean every night.... until next time.

And a big thanks to Stitches + Steel for pimping out our ride.
