Sustainability has always played a key role on what I am trying to create and how I do things. With every decision I consider the environmental impact on people and places and how I can do better.
From the very beginning I have always looked for the most sustainable way to create the product, I have jumped so many hurdles and I am proud of that. Being sustainable is not the easiest route.
From the production of the product itself to the packaging and all the other hurdles that crop up, I am conscious of all decisions. As a business we are for sure not perfect, but we are trying our best.
As the business grows I hope to do better and I hope you guys continue to support the journey.
The product is produced right here in London where I can follow and keep an eye on the process. All the pieces are cast out of recycled metals and when possible I source the chains and other parts from recycled metals, however this is not always possible - I’m working on this.
If I have any objects set in the pieces, I love to use found objects / offcuts which are otherwise seen as waste. There is something special about creating something beautiful from offcuts and up cycling materials.
The gemstones are sourced and cut from sustainable mines in Sri Lanka where I will be visiting in February so watch this space. The supplier also gives 25% of profits to two amazing local charities.
With Diamonds I always try to use old cuts which have been recycled from old Jewellery. I am also looking into other sources of Diamond mining which are less harmful to the enviroment and the people within the industry.
The Packaging is made from recycled materials in Cornwall, England. I spend a lot of time in Cornwall and I have visited the Factory. Its great to have the option of producing sustainable packing right here in the UK.
From the very beginning, honesty and openness has always been key. As the business grows its key to grow in the best way possible, but the door is always open for discussion on how I/we can do things better. I would love to hear from you, just shoot me a mail to grab a coffee - firstname.lastname@example.org.
ZM Jewellery supports two incredible charities, both close to my heart.
One being Bloodwise which supports research for Leukaemia and Lymphoma. A percentage of our Black Friday sales went to this Charity.
The other is The Wave Project UK which takes landlocked kids and introduces them to the sea. I love being in the sea/ocean. It brings a sense of freedom and has inspired me all my life. As well as giving to this charity I am also helping to set up the Wave Project London - watch this space!
